Ideas for Kids Crafts for Valentines
Day
Children love Valentine's Day !
It’s not only an opportunity to show their affection for those
closest to them, but it’s also a holiday that provides lots of chances to be creative.
Children enjoy making Valentine cards for their friends and
family as well as other craft items that can serve as inexpensive gifts for those same
individuals.
Crafts can be as simple as decorating with crayons or something
much more elaborate.
Furthermore, Valentine crafting can be enjoyed by kids of all
ages, from pre-schoolers to middle- or high-school students who have a penchant for the artistic.
Here's 7 easy & creative ideas for childrens crafts this
Valentines Day:-
Creative Cards
Valentine cards come in all shapes and sizes and can be quite
varied. Choose some hearty card stock for your kids’ creations. It’s available in many different colors and
prints and is strong enough to withstand the wear and tear it may suffer at little hands.
For small children who don’t write yet, have stickers ready as
well as large, colorful crayons for drawing pictures. It’s fun to cut the card stock in a heart shape before
the design begins.
For older children, consider offering other materials like
tissue paper, rubber stamps, fabric, foil, glitter and glitter glue, colored stones, and scissors that make
scalloped designs.
Card holders
This is a great Valentine Day craft and it can be reused each
year if it’s made of a sturdy material. There are a number of ways to make these.
You can purchase a small basket, gift bag, or other container
and decorate it with cut-out hearts or other Valentine-themed characters, or you can make the whole basket
from heavy paper that’s folder to form a basket-type vessel that will fit most cards.
These boxes can also be made from Popsicle sticks and painted
and decorated with stickers or other items.
Jewelry projects
Everyone enjoys a gift of homemade jewelry and this craft is
suitable for all ages. The results, of course, will vary. Little fingers need large beads and string for
necklace-making while older kids can do much more detailed work.
Consider a necklace with a message that includes beads that
spell out LOVE, a name, or even XOXO. Bracelets are great, too.
Or try something a little more difficult, like beaded safety
pin projects (you can purchase coil-less safety pins for these creations) or jewelry made from low-fire clay
or bendable wire. Little ones can also make pins out of foam shapes, which can be decorated and glued to
brooch pins.
Plant pots
Small and inexpensive clay/terra cotta plant pots are easy to
decorate and make a great gift.
The easy-to-paint surface is perfect for even little hands and
when painting is done, one coat with an acrylic paint sealer means the paint won’t chip. Older kids can glue
on scraps of colorful tissue paper (use a puzzle glue or something similar for best results) after they paint
the pot.
You can include some dirt and a small plant with your finished
product or fill it with goodies like candy kisses, chocolate hearts, or even gummy
worms.
Frames
Photo frames are a terrific Valentine’s Day gift for friends
and loved ones. There’s no need for them to be elaborate.
Purchase a simple wooden frame at the craft store (small 5x7
frames are rarely more than a dollar or two), some tempura paint, and a variety of other items for
decoration, which might include colored stones, Valentine-themed ribbon, glitter or glitter glue, or even
different shaped pastas.
Little ones can glue at random but encourage older kids to draw
their design before they start cutting or gluing.
Also buy a fine-point silver or gold marker that works well on
wood so that kids can add a personal message to the recipient. Include a favorite photo!
Felt scarf
Here’s a cool one for older kids.
Buy several squares of felt in a variety of Valentine colors
(pink, red, white) or, if available, use wool from old, discarded sweaters. Cut out about 20-30 hearts
(depending on desired length) that are about 5 includes wide and long (make a template so they’re all the
same size).
Lay the hearts on a table so that they’re all pointing in the
same direction and overlap them. Pin them together and then use an x-shaped stitch in a corresponding color
to sew the hearts together where they overlap. Sewing is minimal so should move quickly.
The result is a quirky accessory that’s perfect for your kid’s
teacher or other important person in your child’s life.
