Christmas is a wonderful time of year. It surrounds us with heartwarming traditions and the people we love most.

When you’re on a tight budget, Christmas can become a stressful time of year, especially if you’re worried about disappointing your girlfriend who you’re sure is expecting an over-the-top present that she’ll long remember.

Inexpensive Christmas Gift Ideas for a Girlfriend   

Though you’ll be tempted to stretch your budget by purchasing an expensive gift or two for that special girl in your life, it’s essential to remember that presents can be meaningful – and romantic – even if you don’t spend a fortune on them.

Women love romantic gifts and there’s no need to limit the romance to Valentine’s Day.

Christmas is always a great time to say “I love you” with a gift that warms her heart and doesn’t break the bank.  

Sentimental & Romantic Gifts 

 In general – though there are certainly exceptions – women enjoy gifts with a little extra sentiment built in. So, think about purchasing some items that perhaps relate to the memories you’ve already made.

Did you visit a romantic destination together? Then purchase an ornate photo album at a craft store and fill it with pictures from your trip. (These days, when most people’s pictures are on their computer, having an actual album to peruse is a treat!)

You might also consider framing one particularly meaningful photo, possibly of the two of you. Put it a wonderful vintage frame you can pick up at a flea market, thrift or second-hand shop.

Many online photos stores also offer you the opportunity to turn a favorite photo into a jigsaw puzzle (check out puzzle stores or online sites), and it’ll provide something the two of you can do together on a cold winter night.

Teddy Bears and other stuffed animals are a hit with most women, especially the Build-a-Bear® type that you assemble yourself. Choose an outfit for the bear that has some special meaning and opt for the sound option, which allows you to record a special message for the recipient. 

Gift Baskets 

If you’ve shopped for gift baskets full of goodies for her, you’ve probably noticed that they’re generally quite expensive.

That doesn’t mean, however, that you can’t design your own gift basket and fill it with small, meaningful items like a heart-shaped keychain, her favorite candy bars or some candy canes, an inexpensive pair of heart-shaped earrings or a locket, warm gloves or socks, a bottle of her favorite nail polish (do a little snooping in her bathroom!), and maybe a picture of the two of you in a pretty frame.

For a festive holiday touch, add some glittery Christmas balls she can place on her tree, cover the basket with cellophane and tie it with ribbons and add a sprig of mistletoe.

Finding all these things at a reasonable price isn’t tough if you take a little time to peruse the local shopping mall. And while this gift may take more thought then most, she’ll appreciate the time you spent.  

Create Traditions 

If you’ve been dating for quite some time and suspect this is a relationship that will last, why not take the opportunity to start some Christmas gift traditions.

A great way to do this is to give a gift of a dated Christmas ornament. Many companies make these – some are a little pricey – but most are under $25. At the holiday season, you’ll often find kiosks at local malls that sell personalized ornaments, which are also ideal. Similar ornaments are also available online from businesses that specialize in personalized items.

Be sure to choose one that matches her interests (a dancer, a teacher, a skier, etc.) or that will remind her of something you’ve done together and make sure that the year appears somewhere on the ornament.

Something Inscribed or Engraved 

Want to give her something that will instantly remind her of you when she sees it? Then consider something engraved or inscribed with your names or with a romantic thought.

For example, specialty stores that do engraving on the premises often carry a line of inexpensive jewelry – like ID bracelets or dog tags – that can be engraved with a special message. These can also be purchased online. 

Does she enjoy reading or writing? Find a nice hardbound copy of the novel she can’t wait to read or a classic book by her favorite author (romantic poetry is great!) and write your own inscription on the inside cover, letting her know how much spending this Christmas with her means to you.

If she keeps a journal or diary, buy an attractive one at the book store and write the first entry. Make it as romantic or sexy as you’d like since it’s for her eyes only!
